What is Wing Chun?

Wing Chun is a Kung Fu. It is the only art / style Bruce Lee officially studied, and has been popularized in movies like The Matrix, The Grandmaster, Iron Man, and Sherlock Holmes.

It is an excellent self-defense system, but it is so much more than that. Beyond combative techniques and defenses, Wing Chun has a mental, almost spiritual quality. It teaches you how to calm your thoughts, how to focus and center your everyday life.

Robert Downey Jr. said, “Wing Chun teaches you what to concentrate on, whether you’re here or out in the world dealing with problems. It’s second nature to me now. I don’t even get to the point where there’s a problem.”

Mr. Downey, and many others, credit Wing Chun with saving his life – not in some physical street fight, but in helping to pull his life together against the battle of his inner demons.

Who can take Wing Chun?
Anyone regardless of his or her age, physical condition, or disability; however, at KDA we do not teach little children Wing Chun. Little ones need to learn coordination and balance, how to roll and fall. Teaching children to punch and kick is, in our opinion, counterproductive. If you have a child, seek out gymnastics or dance classes, volleyball, or softball. Martial Arts – especially of a combative nature – will be waiting for them when they are ready.

Mature teens and folk well past their 60s can learn Wing Chun. Do not think you are too old, too out of shape, or that you need some sort of pre-training. The only way to learn is to start, even if you have never tried any sort of Martial Art before. While brutal in its use, the training is soft and controlled.
