It is Valentine’s Day. While this holiday is not universal, what it represents is. Love is the strongest feeling humans possess. Bundled with it is a host of positive influences – empathy, compassion, honor, respect, and understanding.
Valentine’s Day generally honors the expression of love for your significant other, but do not leave out love as a whole. Include the love of your family, the love of humanity, the love of life, the love for your interests, the ability to love yourself – you cannot give what you do not have.
“Love is the highest art. In ancient times, you trained so hard, not for the sake of killing people, but for the love of your family: for the love of your mother, your father, your children, your tribe, and your body. It is the love of life! That’s why we train so hard, so you can preserve life.” — Dan Inosanto
Strengthen and store up your love today to stand against the hate of tomorrow.
On my Valentine’s list are all my students, training partners and instructors, present and past, and all the Martial Artist sisters and brothers in the world.
“It is difficult for a student to pick a good teacher, but it is more difficult for a teacher to pick a good student.” — Yip Man
Happy Valentine’s Day.
